Balancing employees' privacy with the boss's right to know
December 15th, 2007Computers may have made some things easier, but they have also changed a number of things. You may observe your employees. They seem to be working. And at the same time they may be simply chatting online or reading news. Should you try to spying on them? Or is there perhaps a more honest and transparent way of computer monitoring?
Sure, a couple of years ago there was little superiors could do. They had to install spyware. Spyware is the name for software applications that make screenshots, copy text the user inputs into their computer, monitor traffic. So you get control. What happens is that people start having bad thoughts about you. You can lose respect of your people, because you are effectively intruding into their privacy.
