Lost In Translation?
January 23rd, 2008Not knowing the language will not be that much fun unless they call you Bill Murray. That location can be a far away country, an unfamiliar suburb, or occasionally even your own apartment when a new lawn or cleaning team arrives.
In what way does one communicate in such situations? You could attempt using your body to state your position on each issue. But countries are not always similar, circumstances differ and that is why even very expressive gestures do not always properly translate your views on the issue at hand. If you are good at scanning for words you can buy yourself a mini-dictionary for foreign language intensive situations. And yet, a paper dictionary could be not so fast to get around. Why not go with the technology in this case? Like buying an electronic Spanish translator.
